How to Identify Ferrous Metals
If you’re looking to recycle some of your scrap metal, it’s important that you understand what kind of metal you have.
There are two types of metal: ferrous and non-ferrous. Ferrous metals are magnetic, so they’re easily identifiable.
Using a magnet – even one from your fridge – test the scrap metal that you have. If it sticks, it means the metal is ferrous.
Ferrous metals include:
• Mild steel
• Carbon steel
• Stainless steel
• Cast iron
• Wrought iron
Ferrous metals aren’t worth quite as much as non-ferrous metals, but they should still be recycled. Bring in your unwanted scrap metal and we’ll make sure it’s disposed of properly!
